At this point I’m convinced Inti Creates, fine purveyors of pixelated 2D action titles, never sleep. They’ve just released Blaster Master Zero 3 and have the next Azure Striker title in the works, yet for this year’s Bitsummit they decided to announce and reveal yet another title. Enter Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2:
The sequel to a spinoff in the Gunvolt series, Luminous Avenger iX 2 places you back in control of Copen with new gameplay mechanics and the same stylish flair as its predecessors. The Bullit Dash, a means of air-dashing your way from surface to surface (and headlong into enemies), is back and joined by the massive buzzsaw known as the Razor Wheel.
Other series staples, like Kudos and copying boss weapons once you’ve defeated them, are back. You’ll also have the floating robot (and sometimes idol) Lola back at your side with a new power that can heal you as needed. Combine her assistance with the Break-Shift and Bullit-Shift forms at the heart of your arsenal to adventure through a parallel world where only robots exist.
Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 will release digitally on Nintendo Switch, as well as Steam and PlayStation and Xbox consoles, on January 27th, 2022. A physical edition is planned for Japan and Asia, with North America and Europe still TBD.
