Well, it looks like it’s officially the end of an era, as Nintendo has announced plans to remove credit card support via the 3DS and Wii U eShop storefronts.

In the Japanese tweet above, the company confirms that from January 18th, 2022, credit cards will no longer be addable. Pre-paid card options will still work, however, and it’s worth noting that the Nintendo Network ID balance is universal, so if you add credit to your Switch eShop, it will be available on other platforms.
Similarly, Nintendo of Europe made the decision to remove the credit card option two years ago in 2019.
Here’s hoping the store pages themselves are live for years to come.
