The first Sonic movie had more than a few background details referencing the games, and it looks like the second movie will be no different.
With shooting beginning at Fort Langley, the new stand-in for the setting of Green Hills, enterprising photographers have snapped a few shots of the set design.
Fort Langley is under siege.
The tanks have rolled into Fort Langley — the new Green Hills for the #SonictheHedgehog sequel.
Can Robotnik be far behind?

In the gallery above we can not only make out the “Mean Bean Coffee Shop”, referencing the iconic Puyo Puyo reskin Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, but also a variety of vehicles emblazoned with a “G” logo.
While the design of the logo isn’t identical to the one used by the Guardian Units of Nations, or G.U.N., in Sonic Adventure 2, it does bear a striking resemblance to the version seen in Shadow the Hedgehog.
The helicopter is also labelled SA-2. At the start of Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic is captured in a G.U.N. helicopter which has the call-sign “Sigma Alpha 2”, a sneaky reference to the game itself.
We’ll just have to wait and see if the new movie similarly sees Sonic Escape from the City…
