While people have been bemoaning the amount of swords in the game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has had a much more combustible agenda brewing. The irony of explosives sneaking by isn’t lost on me, nor is it when you consider one of the most heavily armed fighters is also their poster boy man.

Beyond Solid Snake, you’ve got every single Link and both Samuses putting demolition to good use for exploration, Duck Hunt kicking their can to mess with your approach plan, and Inklings using their more modern sensibilities to repurpose bombs into painty bursts.
They’re hardly the only bombastic characters you’ll be able to play as this tournament, and the issue’s even a little murky with respect to magical, psychic, and biological blasts. Not to mention the dreaded Bob-omb and other items that’ll be at your disposal – just try and keep some distance.
The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate explosives online tournament event is primed to start this Friday, April 16th.
