Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury launched last week to lots of hype and fanfare, but now that the Mario remaster is finally here, is it really the cat’s meow among fans?
According to Christopher Dring, head of GamesIndustry.biz, the game has immediately clawed its way through the rest of the competition and taken the number one spot in the UK’s weekly software sales.
Super Mario 3D World is no.1 in the UK this week (surprise!). Its launch is nearly 3 times bigger than the Wii U original (physical only), although back then the Wii U had only sold 160k units. It’s the 3rd biggest Mario platform launch on the Switch (behind Odyssey & All-Stars)

That alone may not be too surprising, given that we’re talking about a mainline Mario platformer, but the re-release has outsold its original Wii U counterpart three times over. Dring also notes that it’s now “the 3rd biggest Mario platform launch on the Switch (behind Odyssey & All-Stars).”
