After a quick announcement and even quicker removal, word had gone silent on Sonic the Hedgehog’s next animated adventure. Now though, Netflix has formally revealed the title of the 3D animated series as well as when we can see it. Say hello to Sonic Prime!
Yes, it's true! SEGA’s legendary video game icon Sonic the Hedgehog will star in a new 3D animated series from @SEGA, @WildBrainStudio and @ManOfActionEnt premiering on Netflix in 2022. pic.twitter.com/ydJto8c8i8

The release given (the broad 2022) as well as the involved parties matches what was revealed last December.
Wild Brain Studio’s website has also given us an overview of what the show will entail. It will run for 24 episodes and have the “fate of a strange new multiverse” rest in Sonic’s hands, while also exploring “a journey of self-discovery and redemption.”
The show also “aims to captivate the imaginations of audiences ages six to 11, as well as legacy Sonic fans of all ages.”
It’s interesting that the timing of this announcement comes shortly after the news that Roger Craig Smith, Sonic’s voice actor for the last decade, has departed from the role. Whoever steps into the blue blur’s trademark shoes next, we’ll likely be hearing them in Sonic Prime.
