Announced way back in Spring of 2019 by developer Daedalic, the stealth-action game starring the double-minded ring-obsessed former-hobbit known as Gollum has been quietly sneaking its way toward release. As of today, we have a bit more info on the game, an updated release window, and the announcement of a new publishing partner.
In a press release, Daedalic announced their partnership with publishing company NACON for both the publishing and distribution rights of the game. This fellowship was formed to ensure that the game will live up to fan’s expectations, while also affording the studio the tools it needs to leverage next-gen consoles to their fullest. Thankfully, this increased focus on next-gen hardware appears to not be coming at the cost of current gen, as the game is still listed as coming to all current platforms — including Nintendo Switch.
The development update also shared more details on the mechanics of the game that are sure to make Middle-Earth fans everywhere cry out “we needs it!” in unison:
“The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a story-driven action adventure. Take on a perilous journey as Gollum, chasing the only thing that is precious to him. Climb, leap and sneak your way past dangers or into advantageous spots. Gollum is skillful and sly, but also torn by his split personality. It is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol.”
The Lord of The Rings: Gollum is slated to creep onto the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
