Bethesda’s Nintendo Switch port of the rip tearing sequel Doom Eternal has gone missing in action for the last few months after being delayed on multiple occasions. Over the last two days, some customers who pre-ordered the physical edition were receiving an update about the game, but in the form of canceled pre-orders.

Many users online claimed that local GameStops were beginning to send out voicemail notices that Doom Eternal for Switch had been canceled. IGN later reached out for a statement from Bethesda and they received the following statement:

“While Doom Eternal is 100% on track for an imminent digital-only release on Nintendo Switch, the absence of a physical release at retail resulted in cancelled (sic) pre-orders. Affected customers will receive full refunds and should contact their preferred retailer for more information.”

While not outright confirming that Doom Eternal’s physical version is canceled, it appears the main focus is on the digital release. We’ll continue to follow any further updates about Doom Eternal and the final say on its physical edition.
