Dragon Quest is one of several series celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2021, right alongside the Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, Metroid, and more. Typically with such a milestone we can expect new announcements and releases, and it appears the RPG stalwart is no exception.

During the Dragon Quest X Fall Festival 2020, series creator Yuji Horii took to the stage for some closing remarks. As Gematsu translates, Horii had the following to say…

“Thank you very much for today. Next year, Dragon Quest will celebrate its 35th anniversary. I believe we will be able to make all sorts of announcements in regards to that. And there is still a whole lot of fun to look forward to in Astoltia [the world of Dragon Quest X]. Please continue to support Dragon Quest in the future. Thank you very much!”

We already know of a few projects that are already in the works – the anime Dragon Quest Dai will be getting an action RPG with the title Infinity Strash, while a new Dragon Quest Monsters starring Dragon Quest XI’s Erik and Mia was announced way back in 2018. Couple that with the inevitable Dragon Quest XII and the continuation of the unlocalized Dragon Quest X MMO and there could be quite a few announcements in store.

Naturally, we’ll bring you the reveals as and when they happen.
