As Halloween creeps closer still we’re starting to see more and more spooky, seasonal messages. Joining those ranks is an auditory treat from Banjo-Kazooie. None other than original composer Grant Kirkhope has shared a new remix of Mad Monster Mansion’s theme music. Have a listen to how this (legally distinct) haunted mansion sounds these days.

Mad Monster Mansion Rides Again! starts off slow and eerie, perhaps drifting in from Motzand’s church. As it’s joined by a spectral choir, the brass and percussive intensity grow before taking a lightning strike right to the nuts and bolts from an electric guitar and the main, recognizable melody. And is that Gruntilda’s Lair I hear, rising from the dead before a lonesome piano plays us out?

It’s a fantastic treatment to a great (and timely) source, and hopefully a sign of things to come from the man who gave the world “eekum bokum”.
