Last December, the official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel released a short film starring everyone’s favorite lil beans, the Chao! The sci-fi holiday short was titled “Chao in Space,” and had a ‘90s-era cartoon aesthetic that hit the nostalgia feels in all the right ways. It told the story of a lone Chao against the universe and featured callbacks to the likes of Sonic Adventure and Star Wars! The short was beloved by fans and has amassed over 1.4 million views to date.
As it turns out, the love for the short has extended far beyond the fandom! Katie “Minikitty,” the social media manager for the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter, has announced that the short has been chosen to be featured at the next LA Shorts International Film Festival!
Exciting news!

You can watch the full short film below, and after you have, please join this writer in lighting a candle for the return of the Chao Garden in the next mainline Sonic game. (As well as a Chao spaceship dog-fighting minigame, because that would be amazing.)
