The wonderful and surprising Pokémon animated short done in the stylings of western animation, branded as PokéToon, may be the next Pokémon spinoff the Nintendo and Game Freak will dabble in. At least, both companies now have the PokéToon trademark secured and one less thing to worry about.

Thanks to Japanese Nintendo, not only do we know about the trademark, but also what categories Nintendo and Game Freak selected while applying for it. Covering their basis for this new PokéToon brand, over 300 different product services were picked out. Anything related to producing animated contents, video games, and merchandise were selected.

Regardless of whether or not the animated short would be well-received, Nintendo and Game Freak had to file various legal documents to protect this new brand. The filing date for the trademark was made on May 27th, 2020 and wasn’t approved until June 16th, 2020. Keep in mind that the short was made available on the Pokémon Kids TV YouTube channel on June 5th, 2020.

Does this mean we’ll see more PokéToon content? It’s not a solid yes, but it’s promising!
