As the COVID-19 situation continues worldwide, more and more people are flocking to the medium of video games to occupy themselves during quarantine. In result, total game sales for hardware, software, accessories, and game cards was 52% higher in May 2020 than it was in May 2019, despite a fairly quiet month in terms of new releases.

The Switch smashed a record for the month, selling the most units of any console in May since 2009, when the DS was flying off the shelves faster than the eye could perceive, and the Switch’s year-to-date sales remain the highest in video game console history. As far as software sales go, Animal Crossing had another stellar month at #3 overall, with the ever reliable Mario Kart 8 Deluxe coming in at #12. New release Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition did well for being a niche release coming in at the tail end of the month, reaching #14 overall and being the third best-selling Switch game.

It looks like sales for the Big N are going as swimmingly as ever. That’s all for this edition of Very Exciting Sales Reports, so tune in next time for more hot profit action as we announce the Nintendo Switch has inevitably broken yet another record.
