Today marked the start of IGN’s Summer of Gaming expo, and one of the very first announcement was quite the surprise – Alex Kidd is back!

Sega’s one-time mascot, before a certain blue hedgehog came along, is coming back with Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX. The game is a remake of the Master System original, and you’ll be able to switch to Classic Mode to play a re-worked version in all its 8-bit glory.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX has yet to receive a concrete release date from publisher Merge Games.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
