Today marks an auspicious occasion for an anniversary with an inauspicious number: it’s the 13th anniversary of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl’s release in the US!

The first two games in Generation IV, and also the first entries in the franchise to drop on the DS, Diamond & Pearl brought a host of new features to the Pokémon experience, including online play, the physical/special split, and whatever the heck the Pokétch was. It also, of course, added and iterated upon previous aspects of the Pokémon formula, adding tons of new evolutions to old favorites and stacking a region full of Legendaries to capture.

13 years is quite a while, so we sincerely hope that The Pokémon Company is considering a remake sometime soon so that more people can experience the Sinnoh region in all of its glory. Until then, we’ll remember digging through the underground fondly and wait for that day to come.
