At this point, new countries, states, and events are being shut down left and right. Most of these events were scheduled for the next few months, but events farther out are currently up in the air. One such event is Gamescom, who took to Twitter this morning to confirm the trade fair is still on.

The full event statement can be seen below, but the reality is they’re “not currently affected by the [Cologne event ban] decree,” and “preparations…are continuing as planned” for the August 25, 2020 opening at the Koelnmesse.

Gamescom also mentions that it would refund any vouchers purchased in the event of a cancellation and that people would need to book again.

Gamescom is the biggest gaming event in the world, and last year there were over 370,000 attendees. Thus, unless we’ve seen significant improvement with COVID-19, the trade fair is likely headed towards closure, seeing as there are people from many different countries involved in a confined space.
