When it was decided the Detective Pikachu movie would fill the real world with Pokémon, RJ Palmer was hired on as a key artist for the project. For years before he had designed realistic versions of the critters, albeit ones that were a lot more visceral than the ones we saw in the movie. Now the project has wrapped up, he’s back to doing that fan art, starting with Sword & Shield’s Impidimp, Morgrem, and Grimmsnarl, plus a few other Glimwood Tangle Pokémon on the sidelines (including a mortified Sinistea!)
Presenting Grimmsnarl, the greasy strangler! This is my first new piece for my Realistic Pokemon series in almost 4 years. A lot has happened since then, including working on Detective Pikachu, so I wanted to update the formula a smidge. Look at my giant hairy child. pic.twitter.com/Jw8fLrbmIa

A video has also been uploaded showing the process of drawing the creepy beastie.
We’ll just have to wait and see if it creeps into any potential Detective Pikachu cinematic sequels…
