HAL Laboratory, most well known and loved for their work on the Kirby series ever since its inception, has been around now for four decades! Founded in 1980, the developers have rung in their 40th anniversary with a very special illustration covering all the games and characters they’ve brought to the world.

Front and center are Kirby, Bandana Dee, King Dedede, and Meta Knight. Plenty more Kirby characters can be found around the piece, but they aren’t the only ones. Qbby, Qucy, and Qudy of BoxBoy! fame have tagged along, as has the cast of mobile game Part Time UFO. Old school fans will recognize Lola & Lala from the Eggerland games and puzzle fans can enjoy the 3D Picross representation.

Probably the best little extra though is a certain hair-and-bow hiding out behind Mount Fuji. More than likely this is a Mr. Saturn, recalling HAL’s hand in the EarthBound/Mother trilogy. We wish HAL a very happy 40th Anniversary and look forward to what wonders they bring on next!

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
