Animal Crossing: New Horizons will feature “In-Game Purchases” when it launches, according to an updated ESRB rating on the game’s page on the official Nintendo website.
In addition to “Comic Mischief” and “Users Interact,” New Horizons’ rating now includes “In-Game Purchases” as a label, which was added sometime after February 4th, 2020.
Whether these in-game purchases will be microtransactions like in mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp or paid DLC like in other Nintendo titles is currently unknown; however, the mainline Animal Crossing series is no stranger to downloadable content.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf allowed players to download free furniture and clothing through the Nintendo 3DS’s SpotPass feature — although that wasn’t paid.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches worldwide exclusively on Nintendo Switch on March 20th, 2020.
