The line between beauty and ugliness is a fleeting one… for true beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and who among us can truly determine what does or does not please one’s aesthetics? Perhaps this is what the cake masters over at the Food Network were trying to convey with their latest works: a series of Pokémon cakes that toe the gray space between recognizable monstrosity and absurd beauty.
Okay, a couple look decent – the Mudkip that shoots a jet of water out of its mouth is gimmicking, but it’s on-model – but the vast majority need to be seen to be believed:
In the face of such creations, what can we do but laugh, and cry, and wonder? Perhaps true art is not about realizing aesthetic perfection, but finding the inspiration and joy in aesthetic flaw……
