After years of partnering with other publishers from Nintendo to Microsoft, Platinum Games is getting ready to break out into self-publishing thanks to capital investment from the Chinese conglomerate Tencent.

As announced via an official press release written by Platinum CEO Kenichi Sato, the developer hopes “to use this capital to strengthen [its] foundation as a business and expand from game development into exploring self-publishing.”

If you’re worried Platinum will lose its way with such an investment from a major company, Sato goes on to say that the studio hopes to still create “high quality games that stay true to [Platinum’s] name.” It’s also worth noting that the company will remain independent.

We’ll just have to wait and see what comes of this partnership over the years to come.
