Driver classes in Mario Kart Tour
Drivers in Mario Kart Tour differ from past games, as they aren’t classified by weight. Instead, they’re categorized by how rare they are to unlock. There are three tiers of rarity: Normal, Super, and High-End. Normal drivers are easy to unlock, but Super and High-End characters have a higher number of starting points, a higher top-speed, higher coin-earning rates, a greater likelihood of picking up weapons and items during races, and a greater chance of having more favored courses picked.
At the start of the game, players will receive either Toad or Toadette as their first playable character. After completing the tutorial, a player will receive a random Super-class driver.
How to unlock characters/drivers in Mario Kart Tour
Unlocking characters/drivers in Mario Kart Tour is done via “the pipe,” which can be found under “Menu.” By swiping down on the pipe, players can receive random drivers, karts, and gliders. The pipe requires Mario Kart Tour’s premium currency, Rubies, to use, and players can choose to fire once for 5 Rubies and 10 times for 45 Rubies. Rubies can be obtained simply by playing the game, but players can also spend real-life money to purchase additional ones. There will also sometimes be “spotlight” pipes, during which periods certain characters/drivers, karts, and gliders have different odds of unlocking.
The pipe can be used only after the player completes their first cup. After this, the pipe is yours to fire off!
Mario Kart Tour character/driver gacha pull rates
Generally, appearance/pull rates for drivers break down like this: there’s a ~5% pull rate for Normal-class drivers, a ~1% pull rate for Super-class drivers, a ~0.3% pull rate for High-End-class drivers, and a ~1% pull rate for High-End Spotlight drivers.
