Legendary Pokémon giveaways are second nature now. We see a Legendary we can’t get in-game? Oh, we’ll be able to download it later. Have a Mythical ‘mon that’s just been introduced to the world? Sure to be a giveaway or event eventually. But make them Shiny… and now you’ve got my attention. Charge up your 3DS, we’re going back to Alola!

Shiny Solgaleo and Lunala are getting the giveaway treatment between October 21st and November 10th. Unlike past giveaways, which involved cards or vouchers with printed serial codes, this one will utilize the Pokémon Pass app to scan QR codes, similar to the Shiny Pikachu and Eevee distribution for the Let’s Go! pair of games.
As detailed on the official site, claiming the code in either Sun or Ultra Sun will gift you Shiny Lunala, while Moon or Ultra Moon will give you Shiny Solgaleo. They’ll both be level 60, with complementary movesets featuring their signature moves Moongeist Beam and Soulsteel Strike respectively.
This is the first time these two have been officially available Shiny, as they’re locked in the game proper. No soft resetting required here, so make sure to stop in for the freebies starting late October, just ahead of Sword & Shield’s release on November 15th.
