While Nintendo’s E3 Direct was packed to the gills with announcements that people had been anticipating, there were a couple of notable absences – one of which happens to be Platinum Games’ Bayonetta 3, announced all the way back in December 2017 with essentially no footage shown since then. But missing another E3 is apparently not a sign of a stormy sea for development – in fact, according to Platinum head Atsushi Inaba, things are going swimmingly.

Speaking with VGC, Inaba – when asked if the game was having some trouble – replied that “No, development is actually going quite well. Games aren’t usually done in a year or two… it takes a while. That’s all. Things are going well and I know a lot of people are asking for it.” He also remarked that giving constant updates at E3 “isn’t the smartest PR strategy to begin with,” and that the long radio silence is indicative of it being a “high-quality title” that they’re giving it their all on.

Game development is never an easy task, and the road to going gold is fraught with setbacks and complications – so we can only hope Bayonetta 3 will go over well. In the meantime, Platinum’s Astral Chain releases this August and will provide a nice substitute while we wait.
