Throughout the 2010’s there have been many rumors regarding a new live-action Mortal Kombat movie, but none of them came to fruition. A recent announcement by the Premier of South Australia and New Line Cinema, however, has confirmed that it’s finally happening.

An accompanying press release confirms that it’ll be produced by James Wan (Aquaman) and be the film directorial debut of Simon McQuoid.

Pre-production will begin next month, with the full scale production starting later this year, suggesting we’re still some ways off from seeing it. There’s no word on whether it’ll have an impact on the rumored animated series.
