Right after the awards ceremony for the Splatoon 2 North America Open 2019 tournament at PAX East, a special announcement was broadcast! Straight from the Squid Research Lab, Hisashi Nogami (Splatoon 2 Producer) gave us details on Splatoon 2’s next version update and what April’s Splatfest is all about.
VERSION 4.6.0
Dropping on April 2nd, narrowly avoiding April Fool’s Day, the new version is providing more than game balancing. Sheldon has been busy and is releasing 12 Sheldon’s Picks weapons! In addition to that, a weapon badge system can be used to show off your favorite weapons. Hit the maximum amount of turf inked stat, and you can have a gold shiny badge. With Sheldon’s seal of approval, it’s almost like Nintendo is giving you a massive gold star for a job well done.

As for the 12 new weapons, two of them were first revealed today! Say hello to the Clear Dapple Dualies and Tenta Camo Brella. For the complete kit, we spotted the icons for the sub and special weapons in the video.
- Clear Dapple Dualies: Torpedo and Splashdown
- Tenta Camo Brella: Ink Mine and Ultra Stamp
Luckily April 2nd is just days away!
SPRING INTO SPRINGFEST
Matches started taking on a festive flair last year during certain holidays – October’s Splatfest became a Spooky free-for-all and December’s was sugary sweet and a Frosty wonderland. Now that Easter is coming up in April, might as well celebrate the change of season with SpringFest!
Next month’s Splatfest is a 48-hour eggstravaganza, kicking off the hunt on April 19th at 3:00 p.m. PT and ending on April 21st at 3:00 p.m. PT. While you prepare for painting everything with ink, be sure to keep an eye on the Squid Research Lab Report (Splatoon 2) News Channel, as new headgear and footwear will be available via the service. Thank Pearl and Marina for the fresh duds, as the Squid Research Lab is giving the musical duo the design credit here.
A sunny #SpringFest is coming to #Splatoon2! This pastel powered #Splatfest asks, Who would win in a race? #TeamHare or #TeamTortoise? Pick your side and battle it out in the 48-hour event from April 19th, 3:00pm PT to April 21st, 3:00pm PT. pic.twitter.com/ykMORlJf86

As for what the team themes are, Inkopolis Square is channeling a fable, the Tortoise and the Hare. It’s down to you to pick who would win a race, but your responsibility is winning battles! Pearl is heading up Team Hare and Marina overseeing Team Tortoise.
You have time to decide, but April 19th will creep up on us before we know it!
