Valentine’s Day — that annual torrent of flowers, sweets, and romantic reminders — works just a little differently in Japan. More typically, girls will give chocolate to the special someones in their lives, which sounds a little one-sided until you hear about White Day. On March 14th, guys are expected to return the gesture on what’s called White Day, and by the look of things Dream Land holds to that.

Chef Kawasaki has his work cut out for him, leading all these gents when it comes to confection crafting, but just look at those macarons! Meta Knight’s finally getting the hang of things, though that monogrammed bandana is a gift in its own right. Taranza’s gone above and beyond for the big day with an entire Sectonia cookie just about finished, and Rick and Nago have things all wrapped up.

Of course, not everyone’s doing so well. King Dedede just can’t get things together, though you have to wonder who he’d be giving a Kirby shaped sweet to. The real Kirby is a little too busy drooling to really care about delivering… And Gooey? Well, Gooey’s there and he’s doing his best. Just ask any of those girls and Waddle Dees peeking in through the window — no one’s going to say Gooey isn’t trying here.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
