We all knew it would happen eventually, but the day has come — Pokémon have begun invading the real world, as a horde of Sandshrew have taken root in Tottori Prefecture, Japan, where they have become “ambassadors” to the region as part of a ploy to conquer all of Japan — and after that, the world. Just kidding. For the second year in a row, The Pokémon Company has partnered with Tottori Prefecture by not only releasing Shiny Sandshrew in Pokémon GO, but having a costumed normal and Alolan Sandshrew strut about with cute little badges. The actual Tottori Sand Dunes are off limits for GO, though, as the local government is trying to raise awareness of the endangered wildlife inhabiting the area.
This seems to be a Tottori-exclusive gig, but you can check out some of the videos posted online for yourself, such as these two crossing the street in style:
