Many of us have grown up leafing through physical strategy guides, whether it be for actual tips on beating games or an opportunity to appreciate glossy, high quality prints of official game artwork and maps. Unfortunately, one of the last bastions of the printed guide business is shutting down. Publisher DK has announced that Prime Games guides will be discontinued in Spring 2019.

The news comes via Publisher’s Lunch, who report that DK games blames a “significant decline in the video game guide sector” for the closure. Given the prevalence of online options, and the increasing number of constantly-updated games, it makes sense, even if it is unfortunate.

The company’s Roseville office will close in mid-November, while the Indianapolis branch will remain open until March 2019 to “publish the remaining program”. This likely means the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate guide, for instance, will still be released.

We wish all of the employees affected the best.
