The Xenoblade series has come a long way on Western shores. From Operation Rainfall fighting to get the original Wii game localized to the latest million-plus seller worldwide, the grand JRPG series from Monolith Soft has officially passed sales expectations in both North America and Europe, according to Monolith Executive Director and series creator Tetsuya Takahashi (as recently asked by USGamer). The recent Torna ~ The Golden Country DLC is also selling well, which offers hope for another installment in the series.

On that front, Takahashi is mum on whatever the series holds in store next. When asked if the series would return to the style of Xenoblade Chronicles X, Takahashi says that’s possible, but states:

“I’m someone who gets bored of whatever it was I did last. If the [Xenoblade Chronicles] series continues, you just might see it take a third option. It might go down a path it hasn’t gone down before.”

This is quite the intriguing statement indeed. Xenoblade 1 and 2 could be construed as “science fantasy” or “soft sci-fi”, and X was hard sci-fi with mechs. So would a potential Xenoblade Chronicles 3 go in a hard fantasy direction? Maybe something more modern/urban? Or in some other way we couldn’t even consider? All I know is that the prospect of another game in the series already has me salivating, so please make it happen eventually, or else I will be very sad.
