The Rathalos Assist/Boss reveal during the recent Direct definitely blindsided me. We’d had the Monster Hunter armor for Mii Fighters and as a franchise it has been fairly associated with Nintendo (or rather the 3DS), but I never would’ve guessed its inclusion. But here we are, with the Monster of its home series.

With wings spread, fire attacks, poisonous claws, and a roar that shakes even the sturdiest Hunter to their core (unless they’ve got Earplugs); this wyvern’s got it all. We’re still waiting for word on that stage we’ve seen it in though, so perhaps it’s just the beginning of a more thorough Monster Hunter connection in Super Smash Bros.
