Almost everyone likes chocolate — and if you don’t, then leave. Go on. I’ll wait.

Splatoon 2 knows what’s up, setting the stage for a sweet new sweet debate. Unlike the classic cake and ice cream scuffle of 2017 (where cake was robbed and all your precious ice cream has to be melted by now), this one’s Japan only and based on a popular treat you can grab almost anywhere in the country.

Meiji’s Kinoko no Yama & Takenoko no Sato like of boxed chocolate covered treats have always sold opposite one another on store shelves, and even when they seemingly use the same ingredients, your choice in confectionary is of the utmost importance.

One is a chocolate mushroom cap on a cookie stem. They’re light and smooth, with flavors clearly separated, to let you enjoy both tastes independently. The other is a cookie shaped like a bamboo shoot mostly covered in chocolate. A little less chocolate and a little more cookie makes the flavors blend more evenly and gives a fuller body for your treat. Both have their appeal, but there can be only one winner.

That’s where Splatoon 2 comes in, hosting a Splatfest to settle the score. This is the kind of pressing and important questions Splatfests were made for. Whichever side wins this war, you should still track some of these down and decide for yourself. Not even victory will be as sweet.
