It’s been quite a while since Digimon last had an appearance on a Nintendo console outside of Japan, even though the franchise has seen a renaissance on other systems in recent years. Thankfully that will soon be changing as Bandai Namco has announced that a new game, titled Digimon Survive, will be heading to the Switch next year.

Images and details are light on the ground right now but thanks to Ryokutya2089 and Twitter user BlackKite we know a few essentials. The game will be a strategy RPG that pulls from various different genres, with battles taking place on square grids and energy management being key. You’ll play as an 8th grader with an Agumon partner and dialogue will be delivered with 2D images, presumably akin to a visual novel, where you can make choices that alter the story and it could even influence digivolution. Finally, there’ll be point-and-click style investigation scenes.

Hopefully we’ll learn more soon but for now it’s good to know Digimon is back at Nintendo!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
