With how often I still play Splatoon 2 I hadn’t realized it’s already been out for almost a year now. The ink-splashed sequel has been a Switch mainstay since July 21st last year, with all the new maps, weapons, modes, and more letting the undersea good times roll. After the double play that was the Splatoon 2 World Championship and Octo Expansion release last month, the game’s looking forward to its anniversary with an extra special Splatfest.
The #Splatoon2 first anniversary is coming, and it’s time for a fishy free-for-all global #Splatfest! Which sea creature is your favorite, #TeamSquid, or #TeamOctopus? Pick your preferred cephalopod in-game on 7/6, and prepare for a tentacled Turf War starting 7/20! pic.twitter.com/yrda4Ye21g

That’s right, it’s the match up that’s been playing out across the series’ history and single players modes – Squid versus Octopus! Six legs or eight? Arrow shaped or round? Delicious or…well, they’re both pretty dang tasty. You can make that choice yourself starting July 6th, but for anyone who hasn’t picked up the Octo DLC yet you might have another reason to make your choice.
To make this anniversary event a little more special, during Splatfest battles players on #TeamSquid will play as Inklings, and players on #TeamOctopus will play as Octolings, even if you don’t have the Octo Expansion! pic.twitter.com/nc1h5kRoqt

It’s not just your shirt that’s changing either; you’ll actually be playing as an Inkling or Octoling based on your decision. If you want to check out that experimental style otherwise only available to those who’ve ridden the Undersea Metro, there’s your choice right there.
