If the latest images datamined from the most recent Paladins update are to be believed, we may soon be seeing a port of the game to Nintendo’s Switch. The free-to-play hero shooter, which is often compared to Overwatch, already has ports to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, new information has hinted that Nintendo will also get in on the action.
A few weeks ago, Reddit user Marxally compiled a list of hints gathered from the game’s data that hint at a Switch port, including the port’s codename of “Oasis” and a skin given to the character Androxus that is unlocked when linking a Nintendo Account. He has two similar skins that are unlocked by linking to a Xbox or PlayStation account.
Yesterday, the same user on Reddit found images of Joy-Con controllers in the latest Paladins update. These images are seen next to pictures of PS4 and Xbox One controllers, meant to show up in the Options menu for button remapping. Other Reddit users point out that, even though Steam was just updated to officially support the Switch Pro Controller, there’s no official Windows support of the Joy-Con, and the difficulty of using two devices for one controller on most Steam games means that a Switch port would truly be the most logical explanation for the Joy-Con images.
This should all be taken with a grain of salt, but Paladins would probably find a lot of success on Switch. The system lacks an Overwatch-type game, and with Paladins getting a Battle Royale mode soon, it could scratch several itches at once for Nintendo fans.
