Sonic Mania getting a series of shorts, subtitled Adventures | Nintendo Wire

Despite being an hour long show Sonic’s SXSW panel was filled with surprises for long-time fans, especially those who loved the classic Genesis era. Not only did Sonic Mania Plus get announced, resurrecting characters like Mighty and Ray at long-last, but a new series of animated shorts helmed by Mania intro animator Tyson Hesse was announced.

The Sonic Mania Adventures series will be released on YouTube later this year and the first episode, released within the next 30 days, will immediately follow the conclusion of Sonic Forces, thanks to that game’s timey-wimey weirdness. Check out a preview:

During the panel we also learned about the contents of a few of the other episodes. One will focus entirely on Knuckles, for example, while Ray and Mighty may be appearing later on.

We’ll be sure to bring you the episodes as they show up for free on YouTube!

Always excited to see something a little bit different, Tom is ready to report on games of all shapes and sizes, whether they be wonderful or weird (or, better yet, both.) Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
