In an interview posted on Nintendo’s Japanese site, Shigeru Miyamoto spoke on several subjects, including the recently announced Mario animated movie produced by Illumination. Miyamoto says he has been “considering an animated film for many years now,” but making games and movies were completely different to him. Looking for a film veteran to help, he was put into contact with Chris Meledandri, Illumination’s CEO, through Universal Parks & Resorts, which feature Illumination’s Minions and will soon feature Nintendo properties.

Miyamoto says they have been speaking for over two years and meeting about screenplays. He also complimented Meledandri for being “cost-conscious and time-conscious.” Miyamoto says he hopes to announce more in the future as they iron out details, like the schedule.
