The saga of the Sega racing sequel that may or may not happen continues to grow more interesting. After a supposedly leaked presentation from Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed developer Sumo Digital hinted at a new kart racing game with a “global IP,” Aaron Webber, who runs the official Sonic Twitter account, denied the rumors of the sequel’s existence.

However, we now have more fuel for the fire — a sequel might be happening. Sonic Stadium reports that at the annual Spielwarenmesse toy fair in Nuremberg, toy company Zappies, who created a line of official toys to coincide with Racing Transformed years ago, confirmed to Dutch Sonic fan site Spindash.de that a new Sonic kart racing game is indeed coming.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, but it would line up with the alleged Sumo Digital presentation. Maybe Webber was telling the truth and there really isn’t a sequel in the works, or maybe he was trying to direct attention away so the reveal could be a surprise. Only time will tell.
