For the past year or so, anytime there’s a Nintendo announcement it’s inevitable to see the masses pining for a new Animal Crossing announcement. In all honesty, I can’t really blame them, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m hoping to see one soon.

While I’m not going to get my hopes up too high, some interesting developments in the franchise have surfaced in the form of new trademarks. According to a blog post from Japanese Nintendo, Nintendo has applied for several more trademarks in relation to Animal Crossing. These trademarks include software for a home console, portable electronic game machine and smartphone devices, as well as plenty of merch including stuffed animals, controllers, board games, playing cards, carrying cases and trading card games.

This information should all be taken with a grain of salt, obviously, but it certainly is interesting to see trademarks for so many different things and not just a single game.

We’ll make sure to keep you updated with any new developments about what this could mean, so stay tuned!
