Well, this is a bit unexpected. Yuji Naka, the programmer of the original Sonic the Hedgehog and former head of Sonic Team, has joined Square Enix. The news comes via the legendary developer’s personal Twitter feed, where he also confirms he is developing once more. There’s no word yet on whether he’ll be developing in-progress games or if he’ll work on a new project with the company.

After leaving Sega in March 2006, Naka went on to found his own company, Prope, which developed smaller titles like Ivy the Kiwi and Rodea: The Sky Soldier, as well as multiple mobile games.

We’ll be sure to bring news on any relevant future projects as they’re announced!
