Almost exactly five years since its launch, Miiverse — Nintendo’s social network — has been put to rest.

As someone who was beyond excited when it was first made available for the 3DS (back in December 2013), I can honestly say that this is a sad day. I have a lot of good memories attached to the service, most of which involve sharing hundreds of screenshots of my Animal Crossing: New Leaf town. I used Miiverse quite heavily to document my journey building my very detailed and customized town, and watching my seedling of a village grow into a beloved haven of vibrant pops of color (themed to desserts, of course) over the years couldn’t have been as much fun without the utilization of Miiverse. Knowing I could share my experiences with friends and strangers alike by simply providing a link to my Miiverse page, where I could easily streamline all of my screenshots into one place, was more than handy.

Admittedly, over time, my use of Miiverse dwindled and it became less of a staple in my gaming experience, which makes the loss of the site a bit easier to understand for me; however, that doesn’t change the fact that I’m still very much in love with the idea of Nintendo providing players with a fun social outlet where I could organize my gaming memories in a very visual way. Its closure definitely makes my heart heavy, and I’m a bit regretful that I didn’t continue funneling screenshots to my Miiverse account so I could reflect back on a lengthier stretch of time on my 3DS.

With those thoughts in mind, and my habit of bringing sentimentality to the forefront, I’d like to give my personal goodbye to Nintendo’s somewhat short-lived social network by sharing a few of my favorite Animal Crossing shots, all of which were saved (at one point) through Miiverse.

I’m not the only one partaking in this sendoff. The players within the community have come together to express their thanks and appreciation to each other and Nintendo over the last few days. Here’s a sampling of farewells players have been sending in through Miiverse.

With a heavy heart, it’s time to say goodbye. Thank you, Miiverse, for these last five years of sharing. Our Nintendo experience wouldn’t have been the same without you!
