Next month Pokémon is returning to select US cinemas for two days only, with the nostalgia-laden “I Choose You!” movie. As the 20th film since Ash first met Mewtwo in 1998/99, the production studio at Toho has decided to call back to the very first season of the anime. Check out the first full theatrical trailer:
Now it’s obvious the new movie has significantly changed some parts of the plot, but it’s worth noting the movie isn’t seen as a retcon but more of a “parallel world” where events unfold differently after Ash takes Ho-Oh’s Rainbow Wing.
