While Sonic Mania is quite a fantastic package in its own right, more than a few fans have been wondering if Sega would give the game DLC to bolster its selection of level and characters. According to a recent interview Japanese site Gamer.ne.jp held with general Sonic director Takashi Iizuka, however, no downloadable content is planned at this time (via the Sonic Stadium.)
To some it may be a bit of fresh air in the modern gaming landscape, as it effectively means Sonic Mania’s content is as static as a classic Genesis Cartridge. That said, it would have been interesting to see characters like Amy Rose and some new zones make the cut.
Maybe we’ll just have to wait and see if we get a Sonic Mania 2!
