Since time immemorial, the bane of the jigsaw puzzle enthusiast has been the sky — endless blue dotted with swirling white, a cruel and indistinguishable azure that doesn’t seem to come together no matter how you fit the pieces. Nintendo, never satisfied with doing things the same way, had decided to 1-up the agony by offering a new Mario jigsaw puzzle, of which roughly half is the same color of red.
While those who dare to assemble the pieces will undoubtedly be able to arrange the half of the puzzle that is Mario’s perturbed, bulbous visage, they’ll likely face a Sisyphean task attempting to form the sea of crimson. What sort of message does the unceasing scarlet convey? Red is the color of fire, blood, luck, anger and love. Does Mario’s expression reflect a deep rage towards society? The affection he shows towards those he loves? Or the flames that burns in his heart — and from his hands? Like all true pieces of art, it appears we’ll have to bear witness firsthand if we want to know the answer.
The puzzle will be a GameStop exclusive, and will contain 1000 pieces, of which nearly 50% will be a rubicund monument to human emotion.
