The Minecraft service known as Minecraft Realms is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this summer, as NoA’s Twitter revealed earlier today. Realms is a paid multiplayer server hosting service for up to 11 players, currently only available for PC and “pocket” editions of the game.

It’s safe to assume that you will require the base Minecraft game to utilize this server service. Currently it costs $3.99 a month for 3-person servers and $7.99 for 11-person servers, so presumably the cost on Switch will be similar. Most interestingly, you currently need an Xbox Live account to use Minecraft Realms, which means you may have to sign onto an Xbox account on a Nintendo system (don’t worry – you don’t have to pay for Xbox Live Gold if you just want to use Realms).
Stay wired for more info on Realms as it becomes known.
