While WayForward is well regarded for its original IP like Shantae and Mighty Switch Force, the studio is no stranger to licensed games, from Duck Tales: Remastered to Adventure Time. That said, it might come as a surprise to learn that the team’s next project is a The Mummy game.
As detailed by a Universal Pictures press release, The Mummy Demastered is a platforming adventure game that will release in late August 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, Steam, PS4 and Xbox One. It will cast the player as a Prodigium agent tasked with taking down Princess Ahmanet’s undead army, meaning it’s very much tied to the movie releasing in theaters this Friday. It’s definitely going for a retro aesthetic, and judging by the map in the bottom right of the screen there could be some Metroid-style exploration in order. In some ways it’s very similar to Aliens: Infestation, another licensed game from WayForward that released for the DS back in 2011.
We’ll bring more on the game as we approach the late August 2017 release window.
