The Sonic & Sega All Stars franchise is something of a love-letter to fans, even if many of the games it represents haven’t seen a new entry in years. After Tennis and two racing games, however, no new games have been announced, with the usual developers at Sumo Digital going on to make LittleBigPlanet 3 and Snake Pass.

It turns out more genres were being considered for the cross-over treatment, though. The design studio Funsolve recently put up several pieces of concept art from various recent Sega games, and Sonic Stadium has noticed two that never saw release – All Stars Brawl and All Stars Football (Soccer).

All Stars Brawl seems to have, naturally, been a fighting game of some sort, with Amigo, Super Sonic and Eggman being featured in the artwork. It definitely would be interesting seeing Sega’s own answer to Super Smash Bros., even if the “Brawl” suffix is a bit close for comfort.

Meanwhile the soccer art has the latter two and Super Monkey Ball’s AiAi. Judging by the springs on the sidelines and the incoming rocket, it would have been more Strikers Charged than FIFA. It is worth noting that Sonic is no stranger to the sport, playing it in the Olympic spin-offs with Mario and making a bizarre cameo in the GameCube’s Virtua Striker 3.

We’ll just have to wait and see if these ideas ever come to fruition!
