Hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that River City: Knights of Justice would be getting localized, Natsume has revealed that another game in the franchise is heading west. This time it’s something a bit more familiar – River City: Rival Showdown.

Called Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP in Japan, the game is essentially a remake of the very first River City Ransom, where the iconic retro sprites duke it out on new 3D backgrounds. You can watch some gameplay footage below:

The game launched for Japanese 3DS systems in June of last year to celebrate the Kunio-Kun franchise’s 30th anniversary. It also features local multiplayer, much like the original release.

Rival Showdown is set to release in North America and Europe this fall and, like Knights of Justice, it will be playable at E3 2017, so expect to see more then.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
