In an interview with UK-based gaming publication GamesTM, via Japanese Nintendo, we now have a better understanding of what to expect from Splatoon 2 in the way of voice chat. According to statements by the game’s director, Yusuke Amano, and producer, Hisahi Nogami, voice chat will be an included feature in the game but be limited to only those you know.

“Voice chat can only be used when playing with someone you know, such as in private matchmaking; voice chat with someone you don’t know in random matchmaking won’t happen.”

As previously confirmed, voice chat will require a smartphone app.

The GamesTM interview also reveals that some unlocks from multiplayer can be carried over to the single player Hero mode.

With E3 rapidly approaching, we are hoping to get a better idea of just what to expect from Nintendo’s online services when they launch later this year. Stay tuned.
