Future remakes of games in the Fire Emblem series may see a return to the “Echoes” subtitle, according to an unknown developer of the upcoming Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

The quote comes from a translated line from a scan of an interview, made available through user Kirokan on fan site Serenes Forest.

“We put a lot of thought into a title like ‘echoes’ that can let older games ‘echo’ with the modern players,” said the developer. “We were very pleased with it, and, if there were to be more remakes, we would likely use the ‘ECHOES’ title again.”

Besides clarifying the nature of the subtitle, this does indeed open up the possibility for more remakes in the future, though it appears somewhat uncertain if and/or when they will happen.

Given that the first three games in the series have now been remade, the most likely next candidate would be the franchise’s fourth entry, Genealogy of the Holy War.
